There were two students in a high school - a boy and a girl - who had Down Syndrome; we’ll call them Todd and Emily. They were the same year and had known each other - and just about everyone else in the school - almost their whole lives. Every student said hello in the halls, smiling and waving, as the happy couple would walk down the halls hand-in-hand. In a state known for niceness, this high school did not disappoint in that aspect: everyone was welcome. Within this small haven, Todd and Emily - regardless of their Down Syndrome - thrived, socially and academically.
